Love Metaphors
by Martin Grider

Love is one of the hardest words to define. But the very act
of defining something seems to contradict some of the
principals of love; its fluid nature; its raw emotion; and
especially its poetry. But poetry has another way of defining
things, with metaphor.

Since this is, primarily, a declaration of love, and since it is
equally important that everyone here have some idea what
love means to me, I'm going to use some metaphors to
define my love.

First, love is time,
whether I spend it with, or for you.
Time is unstoppable, imperceptible, and especially: endless
Love is also space,
measured in both proximity to you, and volume,
as it fills every inch of my body and mind.
Third, love is velocity,
measured as a division of the first two metaphors.
And because my love is no longer directionless,
love is a vector pointing far into the future,
a constant acceleration:
of my pulse when I'm around you
and my life as I merge it with yours.
Love is also,
to borrow one of my favorite metaphors, exploration.
Each new day with you is as exciting and full of surprises
as exploring a distant world full of wonder and beauty.

The Book of Love
by The Magnetic Fields

The book of love is long and boring
No one can lift the damn thing
It's full of charts and facts and figures
And instructions for dancing
But I...I love it when you read it me
And you...you can read me anything

The book of love has music in it
In fact that's where music comes from
Some of it is just transcendental
Some of it is just really dumb
But I...I love it when you sing to me
And you...you can sing me anything

The book of love is long and boring
And written very long ago
It's full of flowers and heart-shaped boxes
And things we’re all too young to know
But I...I love it when you give me things
And you...you ought to give me wedding rings
love it when you give me things
And you...you ought to give me wedding rings
